Which Mahaska YMCA fitness program are you going to choose? Will it be in the water or out? Do you need a beginner fitness class or something more intense? The Y does its best to make sure there’s a class size to fit all.

  • Body Conditioning: This is a self-paced but motivating class. Always changing, always challenging. Come mix it up and put as much effort in as you can; your body will grow and adapt the more you come. It’s a mix of HIIT, Tabatta, Plyo and bodyweight exercises.
  • Spin: This class is a group effort with a instructor leading the pace. There will be different speeds and positions to work muscles and build endurance. The cycling room is located upstairs, please ask the desk if you have questions.
  • SuperWomen Fitness: SuperWomen Fitness is for women of all ages. This challenging class is more than a workout. This is a place for Moms to exercise and socialize about Motherhood. this class is held during morning Childwatch, which is included with a family membership.
  • Queenax Functional Training: Beginner- Intermediate Our core is at the center of everything we do. It allows us to sit, stand, reach, and bend. Functional training is replicating actual physical activities we experience in our everyday living. When we train functionally, we train to strengthen and improve balance and coordination in order to become more independent individuals. Together — Core and Functional Training blend together to create Queenax Functional Fitness where strengthening the core and the major muscles groups are the primary focus. In this class, you’ll be find yourself strengthening the core in every exercise you do whether you’re working your legs, back, or focusing solely on the core. This class is all about the strength and toning to improve your overall ability to function.

  • FUNctional Fitness: Have fun, make friends and stay active in this class that focuses on functional movements for daily life.  Using a chair for balance and support, FUNctional Fitness will get you moving with proper warm-up, cool-down, and plenty of action in between using weights, bands, and balls.
  • Water Aerobics: This class offers a great aerobic workout while taking the strain off joints in the water.  Participants will go through stretching, cardiovascular exercises, and strength training exercises.  Each participant will have their own set of water weights to use during the strength training portion. No swimming experience is necessary.
  • Yoga: Yoga is designed to improve the health, performance, and mental acuity of athletes or individuals interested in improving their level of fitness. Based on the ancient fitness science of hatha yoga, it blends balance, strength, flexibility and power in a fitness format.
  • Queenax Bootcamp: (Beginner- Intermediate) An all-in-one workout that wraps strength training, agility, core, and plyometrics together for one fantastic workout! Your instructor will use a variety of equipment, technique, and even games to keep you guessing each time you show up. Think this workout is tough? Well it is, but it is a workout designed for people of all physical abilities with modifications and alternative moves guaranteed to make you never feel left out. Bootcamp is all about what you put into it, and our promise is to get the most out of you each and every time. Join us today and begin shaping a new you the fun way!
  • Deep Water Aerobics: For a new twist on the classic water aerobics class, try deep water on for size.  While focusing on a complete workout with stretching, cardio, core, and strengthening exercises, deep water aerobics is sure to hit the spot for aqua fanatics.
  • Body Combat: LES MILLS BODYCOMBAT is a high-energy martial arts-inspired workout that is totally non-contact. Punch and kick your way to fitness and burn up to 740 calories in a class. No experience needed. Learn moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Capoeira and Kung Fu. Release stress, have a blast, and feel like a champ. Bring your best fighter attitude and leave inhibitions at the door.
  • DANCE CARDIO: In this one-hour class-like-a-party, you’ll incorporate footwork and body movements from a wide variety of dances including hip-hop, Latin, and ballet (instructor’s choice). Participants groove to the beat as they move their bodies like never before. Your instructor will start off with a slower beat and then rev it up for a great workout/dance. The benefits of this class are endless but expect to increase heart and lung capacity, total body toning, relieve stress, upbeat and fun and will tone your abdominal.
  • Queenax Beginner: (Mobility Work) This program will focus mainly on flexibility.  This will be a short class that will also work on self-myofascial release and working on our mobility to help our day to day tasks easier while also feeling better.  Having tight muscles can wreak havoc on the body and cause you to feel pain in certain areas.  Join us today to Loosen up!
  • Queenax Upper & Lower Body Core: (Intermediate)This class will only be offered on Saturdays and will alternate between upper body and core work on one Saturday and the next Saturday will be all lower body exercises followed by core work.  This class will be a great way to blast your core as every exercise on the Queenax makes you engage your core to the fullest.  If you like being pushed and challenging yourself this will be a great class for you.
  • BODYPUMP: The original LES MILLS barbell class, BODYPUMP will sculpt, tone and strengthen your entire body, fast! Great bodies aren’t born, they are transformed, using the proven BODYPUMP formula: THE REP EFFECT a breakthrough in resistance workout training.  Focusing on low weight loads and high repetition movements, you’ll burn fat, gain strength and quickly produce lean body muscle conditioning.
  • BEGINNER BASICS: Beginners Basics is designed for every YMCA member who is on their fitness journey. Beginners Basics classes will demonstrate how to effectively warm up, stretch, perform body weight exercises as well as use fitness machines, cardio machines, dumbbells, and free weights. If you are searching for a better understanding of what the Y can offer you or are tired of your same old workout routine, check out Beginners Basics for a fresh start.
  • Queenax XTREME & Queenax DREAM BODY BOOTCAMP: 
    (Will be similar classes and level of difficulty)
    Intermediate – Advanced)These two classes will be tough and push you physically as well as mentally.  These two classes are all about giving it your all, all the time, every single time. You don’t have to be the most experienced exerciser to join this class, you just have to be willing to give it everything you got. In this high intensity class, you’ll rotate through various exercises on the Queenax where you’ll perform as many reps as possible in short bursts of 20-30 second intervals. Move at whatever pace works for you, we just want you to go all out. At only 30 minutes, this high-paced, high energy class will fly by allowing you to not only get an amazing workout in, but allow you more time in your day to get things done.
