A message from the director:

"Thank you for your membership with the Mahaska County YMCA. It is our privilege to serve you and your family. We serve individuals from six weeks old to senior citizens and we continue to make improvements in programs and services in an effort to support the growing needs of a healthy lifestyle. Whether you are working out in the weight room, renting the aquatics area for a family party, or holding a meeting for your employees, policies have been established to ensure a safe environment for everyone. The information appearing below addresses the policies, procedures, restrictions, and requirements of the Mahaska County YMCA. The links appearing below will help direct you to your area of interest. Aquatics:

If a child fails to attend the first two (2) swim lesson class times, their spot will be offered to participants on the waiting list unless the Aquatics Coordinator is contacted.

Cancellations:

During severe weather, if the Oskaloosa system cancels classes, the Y will also cancel morning adult classes, youth classes and preschool.

Closures:

The Y will be closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. The Y closes at 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. For Educare, please refer to the Educare handbook for a detailed look at scheduled closures.

Financial Assistance:

Every day, the Mahaska County YMCA offers quality, affordable programs and services designed to benefit people of all incomes and backgrounds. Through generous contributions, no one is turned away from the Y due to inability to pay. Please contact any staff member for financial assistance information. All records are kept confidential.

Guest Passes:

All members are allowed two (2) guest passes a year. Members of other Y's are allowed up to 5 visits per month.

Locker & Laundry Service:

Locker and laundry service is available for $20/month for an individual member, and $30/month for a couple membership. Yearly rates are $240/$360 respectively.

Lockers:

Members have daily use of lockers at no charge. Members must provide their own padlock. Padlocks must be removed at the end of each business day or they will be removed by staff. Permanent locker storage is available for $7/month (individual) and $10/month (couple). Yearly rates are $84/$120 respectively.

Pool Rules:

  • Showers are required before entering the water.
  • Diving in shallow end of pool is not allowed.
  • Backwards dives, flips, or twists are not allowed.
  • Diving blocks may not be used during open swim (Swim Team and Lessons only).
  • Street shoes are not allowed on pool deck.
  • No glass, food, or drinks on the pool deck.
  • No running, pushing, dunking or horseplay is allowed.
  • Personal flotation devices allowed in shallow end only or at lifeguard's discretion.
  • Proper swim attire must be worn. No t-shirts, cutoffs, etc.
  • Persons with open wounds are not allowed in the pool.
  • Children under the age of 8 must be directly supervised by an adult.
  • YMCA is not liable for lost or stolen items.

Programs:
  • All program registrations must be paid in full before participation is allowed.
  • Credits or refunds may be granted with a doctor's written excuse and the approval of the program director.
  • Programs cancelled by the Y will be rescheduled or credits/refunds will be issued.
  • Any program not meeting the required number of participants may be subject to cancellation.

Spa Rules:
  • Persons with a medical condition, including pregnancy, should not use the spa without first consulting a physician.
  • Anyone having a contagious disease shall not use the spa.
  • Persons shall not use the spa immediately following exercise or while under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, or other drugs.
  • Persons shall not use the spa alone without supervision.
  • Members and guests age 18 and older may use the spa.
  • Persons shall not use the spa longer than 10 minutes.
  • No running on the deck.
  • No glass bottles or food is allowed.
  • Occupancy of the spa cannot exceed eight (8) people.

Towels:

Members/guests may use one (1) towel and one (1) sweat towel at no additional charge. There are designated hampers to put towels in when finished.

Note: The Age Requirements listed here are general guidelines. The Mahaska County YMCA reserves the right to make adjustments as needed and to determine what responsible behaviors are.

Adult Fitness Room:

  • Youth in 9th Grade and older are allowed in the adult fitness room unsupervised.
  • Youth under 9th Grade are not allowed in the adult fitness room.
Adult Locker Rooms:
  • Members and guests age 18 and older may use the men's and women's locker rooms. The Y is not liable for lost or stolen items.
Boys' and Girls' Locker Rooms:
  • No age restrictions. The Y is not liable for lost or stolen items.
Special Needs & Family Locker Rooms:
  • Parents with children who are under 8 years old and those with special needs may use the family and special needs locker rooms. The Y is not liable for lost or stolen items.
General Building:
  • Children 8 and younger must either be under the direct supervision of a parent or a responsible person of at least 14 years of age or be enrolled and participating in a Y program at that time.
  • All members must scan their membership ID cards at the front desk upon entering the facility.
  • Inappropriate language and fighting are prohibited. Violators are subject to ejection from the facility.
  • All schedules are subject to change.

Fitness Classes:
  • Youth in 9th grade and older are allowed to participate in fitness classes.
  • Youth under 9th grade are not allowed to participate in fitness classes unless the classes are specifically designed for this age group.
Racquetball Courts
  • Youth in 9th grade and older may use the courts without supervision.
  • Youth in grades 3 through 8 may use the courts under the direct and constant supervision of a parent or guardian.
  • Children under 3rd grade are not allowed on the courts.
  • Eye protection is strongly recommended for all racquetball play.
Swimming Pool:
  • Children 8 and younger must either be under the direct supervision of a parent or a responsible person of at least 14 years of age or be enrolled and participating in s Y program at that time.
  • Lifeguards are not responsible to supervise children. Youth in the pool who are unable to swim well must be under the direct supervision of an adult or guardian who is in the pool.
  • For the safety of YMCA members, if there is a power outage, all patrons will be asked to exit the pool until the power is restored.
Spa:
  • Members and guests ages 18 and older may use the spa.
Youth Fitness Zone:
  • Youth in 3rd grade or older may use the fitness zone unsupervised.
  • Youth under 3rd grade are not allowed in the youth fitness zone.
  • The fitness zone is an exercise room and not a play room. Youth should only be in this room if they are exercising.

During Business Hours Rates:

  • Multi-purpose room: $10/hour (up to 30 people)
  • Pool: $50/hour
  • Gymnasium: $30/hour

  • Multi-purpose room: $20/hour (up to 30 people)
  • Whole Facility, 1-30 people: $200 (three-hour maximum)
  • Whole Facility, 31 or more people: $200 plus $4 per person over 30 (three-hour maximum)
  • Gymnasium: $40/hour

Overnight Rates:
  • The YMCA offers rental of the facility for overnight use, which includes use of the facility, pool, gymnasium, meeting rooms and more.
  • Whole Facility: $300 (1-30 people, 3 hour maximum. Participants of more than 30 people add an additional $4 per person.)

Birthday Parties:
  • Come celebrate at the Y. There are two birthday packages to choose from. All parties can run up to 3 hours long.

    • Package A: Includes use of the multipurpose room and the pool. Fees are $50 for YMCA members, $60 for non-members. Groups larger than 30 people pay $3.50 per person over the allotted 30.
    • Package B: This package includes the YMCA campsite at Lake Keomah where kids can enjoy the outdoors. The building does have electricity and a refrigerator on site. Fees are $50 for YMCA members and $60 for non-members.

  • Party Guidelines:
    • Parties provide their own decoration and food.
    • Tables and chairs will be provided.
    • Party organizers and participants are required to pick up following the party.
    • There must be one (1) adult present for every ten (10) children in attendance.
    • A YMCA lifeguard will be on duty for the YMCA pool.
    • Party dates must be reserved and paid for in full at least three (3) days prior to the event.
