The Mahaska County YMCA offers a flexible and family friendly work environment in a Christian organization. Our non-profit organization relies upon community members interested in contributing their time and talents in creative ways.
Much of the staffing for the YMCA is provided by community volunteers especially in the Sports and Maintenance Departments. The Y has limited full-time positions available but does offer part-time positions whenever possible.
Part-time Benefit Package: Benefit package for part-time employees includes YMCA membership and the YMCA Retirement Fund. After vesting, 8% of wages are invested in your retirement account including 3% employee contribution and 5% YMCA contribution. Mahaska County YMCA is an equal opportunity employer.

- Custodian
Part-time Wages:.............$7.25/hour Custodian position available with approximately 10 hours per week of custodial and light maintenance duties. Afternoon availability preferred. The successful candidate will be a motivated person who takes pride in their work and the facilities they are responsible for, understanding that a clean environment is critical to member satisfaction and healthy living.
- Educare Teacher Associates
Part-time Wage Range.............$7.25-$7.75/hour Wages commiserate with educational background and experience
- The Y is seeking part-time (up to 30 hours per week) and substitute teaching staff in our Educare Department where we serve infants through preschool-age children. Opportunities for part-time summer camp counselors are possible in May.
- The successful candidate will assist lead teachers with implementing curriculum in a creative, flexible learning environment within our early childhood classrooms. Other essential functions include supervising children, designing and implementing daily activities, maintaining quality communication with parents, following all licensing and quality standard requirements, and working collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure an exemplary classroom and workplace environment.
- A minimum of two years experience in early childhood is required and Early childhood Technician or CDA is preferred. College degree in related field a plus.
- Fitness Instructors
Part-time Wage Range.............$7.25-$8.50/hour Wages commiserate with educational background and experience
- The Y is seeking quality community members to serve as fitness and lifestyle role models for Y members. The successful candidate will lead group classes ensuring that the classes are energizing, fun, safe, and educational. Training is provided. We are seeking instructors for a variety of classes including Zumba, water aerobics (lifeguard certification strongly recommended), body assault, group cycling, balls and bands, and more. A Zumba instructor is our priority at this time.
- Member Service Representative
Part-time Wage Range.............$7.25-$7.45/hour
- The YMCA is seeking qualified candidates to provide member services in a friendly and fast-paced work environment. The successful candidate will be a team player with previous experience providing quality customer service, computer experience with the ability to learn new software, and the ability to multitask. Evenings and weekends required.
- Personal Trainers
Wage Range............................$10-15/hour Wages commiserate with educational background and experience
- The Y is seeking certified personal trainers to serve as fitness and lifestyle role models for Y members. Personal trainers will provide one-on-one fitness instruction and support for members and may teach fitness classes if desired. Must be available at optimal hours for members seeking personal training.
