 The 2nd Annual Osky Winter Open - More Fun, More Events
The Second Annual Osky Winter Open, a mini-putt golfing event held ‘fore the YMCA,’ will be held in Penn Central Mall February 8 and 9. This two-day event includes open golf, a classic golf tournament, and a Friday Fun Night for Middle School students. Families, friends, and co-workers will enjoy some competitive play in climate controlled comfort. All 18 mini-putt holes are uniquely designed for fun and are built and sponsored by local businesses.
“The Classic Golf Tournament is a new addition this year,” said Dawn Collins, YMCA Executive Director. “This is a perfect opportunity to have some fun with co-workers, shake off the winter blues, and maybe even win a prize or two.”
The Classic Golf Tournament will be held Friday, February 8 from noon until 1:30. The tournament is limited to 36 two-person teams, and cost is $40 per team which includes a box lunch. There will be a shotgun start and flighted awards. Sign up now before all the slots are reserved and enjoy this friendly competition with a good cause. The reservation deadline is Thursday, February 7.
Also part of this year’s Osky Winter Open is a “Friday Fun Night” for middle school students. For only $5 students will enjoy unlimited mini-putt, Just Dance, and Wii Bowling. Concessions will also be available. “Friday Fun Night” will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Students must bring their school ID or pass and are asked to use the entrance by the Dollar General store.
Open Golf is scheduled for 1:30 to 6 p.m., on Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. This is a perfect time for families and friends to enjoy time indoors and support a worthy cause, because event proceeds go to support YMCA updates and additions.

First Annual "Osky Winter Open" ~ Success!

The First Annual Osky Winter Open - Mini-Putt Fore the YMCA was a successful event for the community. An average of over 175 people a day played the course.
“It was great to see all the families come out and enjoy some friendly competition,” said Linda Crookham-Hansen, Event Chair. “There were many wonderful comments from the sponsors, participants, mall merchants, and volunteers. The business community outdid themselves with creativity on hole designs and this was key to the success of the event. We are all pleased.”
The green fees brought in over $2,500 and sponsorships brought in $13,600 for a total of more than $16,000 to support the Mahaska County YMCA.
 Industrial Commercial Insulation (ICI) won the first ‘People’s Choice’ award. It was a close race between ICI and Cablevey.
“I have heard lots of competitive talk between the hole designers on how they’ll be back better next year. I can’t wait to see what the second year brings from our businesses. We may even expand to 27 holes,” said Madonna Bowie, YMCA board member.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported the event – sponsors, volunteers and community members who golfed, of course. I especially thank the committee who put so much time and effort into planning and carrying out this event. The Y is fortunate to have so many caring people committed to our success,” said Dawn Collins, Executive Director.
Event proceeds will benefit the Mahaska YMCA efforts to enhance the Y with long overdue additions and updates.

The Second Annual Osky Winter Open – Mini-Putt Fore the YMCA was, again, a successful event for the community. Participation increased for all activities with over 400 people playing the course over the two days. “The first annual Two-person Tournament was a big success with 20 teams taking to the links over Friday’s lunch hour. The friendly competition between the teams was a great way to kick off the two days,” said Matt Sherlock, Committee Member. The tournament winners were David Ahmad and Joe Crookham. The second place team was Jason Shafer and Chris Roach. Ryan Bandstra and Jacob Dalbey came in third.
