Across the United States, more than 500,000 business leaders, community advocates, parents, teens and individuals who want to give back and support their neighbors volunteer at the Y. That’s because in 10,000 neighborhoods nationwide YMCAs have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver positive, personal and social change.
With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, Y volunteers give men, women and children of all ages and from all walks of life the resources and support they need to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.
Volunteers are critical to advancing the mission of the Mahaska County YMCA. The Y operates on a limited budget and depends upon community support as it models YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility for the Mahaska Community.
Volunteer opportunities are limitless! Individual opportunities include:
- Coach youth sports such as basketball, gymnastics, t-ball, volleyball
- Assist with gymnastics and swim team home meets
- Support member services by assisting with various administrative duties
- Serve on the Board of Directors
- Serve on the Fundraising Committee
- Assist with individual fundraising activities
- Assist with various grounds keeping, custodial and maintenance projects
- The Y staff would be interested in hearing your thoughts and ideas.
Group opportunities include:
- Assist with special events such as chaperoning 5th Quarter Parties or supporting preschool activities
- Assist with large projects such as redecorating a room, cleaning the playground, pool area or parking lot
- The Y is very interested in community members' talents and skills of every kind.
