PRESCHOOL

Don't miss an opportunity to reserve a spot for your children in one of the YMCA's three- or four-year-old preschool programs. Children turning three or four by September 15, 2011 are eligible to participate in the 2011-12 Preschool Classrooms.

Preschool for 3-year-olds is located at the YMCA
This program meets on Monday and Wednesdays or Tuesday and Thursday's from 8:45 until 11:30 a.m.

Preschool for 4-year-olds is located at the former Webster Elementary School Building
The morning program meets Monday through Friday from 8:45 until 11 a.m.; the afternoon session begins at Noon and runs until 2:15 p.m.

The YMCA's three- and four-year preschool programs include eight swim lessons, six gymnastic lessons and a four-week sports sampler session. In addition, both three- and four-year preschools implement Creative Curriculum and Program Wide Positive Behavior Intervention Supports in the classrooms. This programming helps teachers by ensuring they are meeting the needs of each individual child.

The Mahaska YMCA follows the Quality Preschool Program Standards set by the Iowa Department of Education and focus on Y specific character values and healthy eating habits. The programs include project based learning to plan learning activities. By building learning on interests of enrolled students, a foundation for a love of learning is created which will carry students through their entire educational journey.

SPORTS SAMPLER

Three- and four-year-old preschool students at the Mahaska County YMCA get to experience all that the 'big kids' and adults get to with their membership. The Preschool Sports Sampler is a four-week program with specific goals in mind of developing youth balance, coordination, agility, and teamwork. With the help of qualified sports instructors, this program is designed around the fundamentals of basketball, relay races, and obstacle courses, t-ball, and games combining music and movement. Children enrolled with the Mahaska YMCA's three- and four-year-old preschool love the Sports Sampler as much as the Y Directors and Instructors love offering it!

SWIM LESSONS

Parents seeking to get their preschool-aged three- and four-year-olds off and swimming appreciate that enrolled students get the opportunity to take swimming lessons. The Mahaska County YMCA is proud to pass on the knowledge required to be a safe and life-long swimmer through its lesson programs. Whether it is a preschooler's first time in the water or another splash as an avid returnee, all the children love their time in the water. Best of all, parents can rest assured that qualified instructors are on hand at all times. The Mahaska County YMCA also offers evening and summer lessons for those wanting more fun and experience in the pool.
