Join the cheer squad this fall and support our flag football teams with energy and spirit. The YMCA Youth Cheerleading Program is open to children ages 5–12 and offers a fun, team-oriented environment where participants will learn cheers, chants, basic motions, and routines.

Cheerleaders will practice once a week and perform on the sidelines at Saturday morning basketball games.

Program Details:

• Practice Time: Tuesday’s at 5:00 PM

• Game Time: Saturdays beginning at 8:00 AM

• Season Dates: September 8th – October 31st

• Location: 1521 Green Street, Mahaska County YMCA

Cost:

• $50 for YMCA Members

• $75 for Non-Members

The YMCA is excited to partner with USA Football! Through their generosity, the YMCA has been granted new flag belts and footballs which will be used for this league!

Each week includes a Thursday evening practice (5:30p) where players build skills like passing, receiving, teamwork, and strategy—followed by Saturday morning games (Kickoff 9a) where they put their skills to the test in friendly, fast-paced matchups. Referees will be available this year to give the kids a real taste of organized football!

Whether your child is new to the sport or already loves football, this league encourages healthy competition, sportsmanship, and physical activity for all skill levels.

YMCA Youth Volleyball League

Bump, set, spike — it’s time for volleyball! The YMCA Youth Volleyball League is designed to help kids build skills, stay active, and have fun in a supportive team environment. Players will learn the fundamentals of passing, serving, setting, and teamwork while developing confidence both on and off the court.

Each team will have a weekly practice on Thursdays to build skills and prepare, followed by games on Saturday mornings where players can put their practice into action. Our focus is on teaching the game, encouraging sportsmanship, and creating a positive experience for every child — whether they’re brand new to volleyball or looking to grow their abilities.

Program Highlights

• Weekly Thursday evening practices at 5:30-6:30pm

• Saturday morning games at 9am against other Mahaska YMCA teams

• Emphasis on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship
