This level focuses on Water Acclimation, making it perfect for those who may feel nervous about the water or are just starting out. The class is designed to help increase comfort and confidence in underwater exploration through engaging games and activities.

What to Expect:

• Water Confidence: Beginners will be gently introduced to the water with fun, age-appropriate activities designed to build comfort and reduce fear.

• Basic Skills: Your child will start learning basic self-rescue skills, like holding the pool’s edge, and will be introduced to simple swim strokes with the support of an instructor.

• Safety First: Emphasis is placed on water safety, ensuring that children learn to stay calm and feel secure in the water while developing essential skills..

Summer Preschool Swim Lessons at the YMCA

Join us for a fun-filled, safe, and educational summer at the Edmundson Pool in Oskaloosa! Our Summer Preschool Swim Lessons, hosted by the YMCA, are designed for young children to develop water safety skills and build confidence in the pool. These lessons, held at the Edmundson Pool (1405 S F Street, Oskaloosa, IA 52577), focus on teaching essential swimming techniques in a fun, supportive environment.

Throughout the summer, preschoolers will engage in activities that teach water safety, floating, and the importance of breath control. Our instructors will guide your child through skills such as:

• Water Safety: Teaching children how to stay safe in and around water, including the importance of following rules and understanding basic safety precautions.
• Floating: Helping children become comfortable with floating on their backs, a key skill for self-rescue in the water.
• Breathing and Going Underwater: Encouraging children to confidently go underwater without plugging their nose, building their comfort level with submerging their face in the water.

These lessons are designed to be a fun introduction to swimming, while focusing on water safety and skill development. The Water Movement level is perfect for children who are comfortable in the water but are not yet able to swim independently. These lessons will focus on developing forward movements, practicing self-rescue skills, and gaining more confidence in the water.

In this level, children will be introduced to the freestyle and backstroke, helping them build the foundation for independent swimming.

What to Expect:

• Forward Movements: Children will work on moving efficiently in the water, focusing on building strength and coordination.

• Self-Rescue Skills: The lessons will emphasize self-rescue techniques, enabling children to feel more confident and safe in the water.

• Freestyle and Backstroke Introduction: Basic skills for both the freestyle and backstroke strokes will be introduced, helping children work toward swimming independently.
