The Mahaska County YMCA offers a flexible and family friendly work environment in a Christian organization. Our non-profit organization relies upon community members interested in contributing their time and talents in creative ways. Much of the staffing for the YMCA is provided by community volunteers especially in the Sports and Maintenance Departments. The Y has limited full-time positions available but does offer part-time positions whenever possible.

Full-time Benefit Package: Benefit package for full-time employees includes health and life insurance, paid time off, Y family membership, and YMCA Retirement Fund. After vesting, 8% of wages are invested in your retirement account including 3% employee contribution and 5% YMCA contribution.

All YMCA staff and volunteers must submit to criminal background, child and dependent adult abuse registry checks and sex offender registry checks. All staff must obtain CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications. Bloodborne Pathogens training is required for all aquatics, child care, facility, and member service department positions and is recommended for all other positions. Mandatory child abuse reporter training required for all child care department positions.

Member Services Representative:
Mornings, Days, Evenings, Weekends
Position Summary: Part-time Hourly wage non-exempt. Greet and welcome members as they arrive at the Y. Assist with checks ins, questions, and transactions. Schedules are flexible.
Requirements: Must be 16 years of age; must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 30 days of hire. Must be able to pass a background check.

Part-time Aquatics Coordinator:
Days
Position Summary: Part-time Hourly wage non-exempt Directs and supervises program activities. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance, develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Monitors daily operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of the pool. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Must be 16 years of age; must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 30 days of hire. Must be able to pass a background check. Able to get lifeguard certified.

Swim Team Coach:
Seasonal Hours
Position Summary: Understand and completely adopt the Team Philosophy. Then ensure that the board members, assistant coaches and parents all understand it as well so no one is confused or doesn’t know the game plan. 2. Develop and implement an appropriate training program, practice schedule and meet schedule for the swimmers directly coached. Ensure that all other programs and schedules are appropriate for the age, and adhere to the Team Philosophy. 3. Meet with swimmers and / or parents to discuss goals and progress, and to ensure that any concerns are addressed. 4. Oversee, support and communicate with the coaching staff. Provide educational opportunities where possible. 5. Attend and be active at board meetings, and take charge on any issues that may affect swimmers or coaches. Let the board take the lead on all other issues. 6. Head Coach must attend all practices and all meets and make themselves available to the parents before and after practice. 7. During meets the Head Coach must interact with their swimmers before races and especially after to give them advice on what they could do better and how to improve and what they did well. Coach should have a note pad to take notes on what each individual needs to work on to reach their potential and improve by the day (During Meets and also practices). 8. Depending on how the meets went the Head Coach should know what their team needs to work on the following week in practice whether they struggled at getting off the blocks, their turns on just their overall form. There needs to be a game plan of attack the following week to ensure the swimmers aren’t making the same mistakes they did the following week. 9. Head Coach must accept all swimmers of all levels of skill and interest and help them all reach their potential. Coaches should not take all there time with more advanced and skilled swimmers but need to work with everyone. 10. During meets every coach should know there tasks and where to be during the meets. The swimmers and parents should also know this as well so they know where to go for certain situation and questions. 11. Communication is a top priority when dealing with this many swimmers and families. Head Coach needs to make themselves more available and their response time should be same day whether it is via phone or email or in person. 12. Submit meet results and a simple write up after each meet to the Oskaloosa Herald. 13. Make parents/ Swimmers aware if they are close to making state and regional qualifying times. 14. Make a note of all records being broken and update record board in the viewing area at the end of each season.

Part-time Life Guard:
Flexible hours morning and day hours
Position Summary: The lifeguard serves as a role model and is responsible for safety of all patrons in and around the pool area. The position requires mobility attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors.
Requirements: Must be 16 years of age; must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 30 days of hire. Must be able to pass a background check.

Part-time Swim Instructor:
Hours afternoon and evenings.
Position Summary: Looking for a friendly candidate to help teach children how to swim. We will train you on proper instructor techniques.
Requirements: Must be 16 years of age; must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 30 days of hire. Must be able to pass a background check.

Part-time Evening Childwatch Staff:
Hours M-Th 5-7:30pm.
Position Summary: We looking for a staff member to help in our Childwatch area in our YMCA location. Staff will be working with small children and babies.
Requirements: Must be 16 years of age; must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 30 days of hire. Must be able to pass a background check.
