PRESCHOOL

Children are like sponges –
They watch and absorb knowledge, skills and values from everything and everyone around them.

YMCA kidsAt the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That’s why our child care, preschool and after school programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids, the need children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things, and the caring and reinforcement parents and families need to help each other.

The Mahaska County YMCA is part of the Oskaloosa Preschool Partnership which includes Oskaloosa Public Schools, Head Start, and Sonshine Preschool. The four-year-old program is part of the statewide voluntary preschool program as well as the local partnership. The teachers have four-year degrees with endorsements in early childhood. Associates are working toward two- and/or four-year degrees in Early Childhood education. This commitment assures parents their children are well cared for and experiencing educational and exciting learning opportunities. Before and after school care is also available. Limited Mahaska/Wapello Early Childhood Iowa Area scholarships are, and DHS Childcare Assistance is accepted.

The Y is committed to the philosophy of serving others through the mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs which build healthy spirit, mind, and body, modeling the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. You are welcome at any time to tour our child care and preschool classrooms. Preschool hours are:
