The Mahaska County YMCA offers a flexible and family friendly work environment in a Christian organization. Our non-profit organization relies upon community members interested in contributing their time and talents in creative ways. Much of the staffing for the YMCA is provided by community volunteers especially in the Sports and Maintenance Departments. The Y has limited full-time positions available but does offer part-time positions whenever possible.

Full-time Benefit Package: Benefit package for full-time employees includes health and life insurance, paid time off, Y family membership, and YMCA Retirement Fund. After vesting, 8% of wages are invested in your retirement account including 3% employee contribution and 5% YMCA contribution.

Part-time Benefit Package: Benefit package for part-time employees includes YMCA single adult membership and the YMCA Retirement Fund. All YMCA staff and volunteers must submit to criminal background, child and dependent adult abuse registry checks and sex offender registry checks. All staff must obtain CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications. Bloodborne Pathogens training is required for all aquatics, child care, facility, and member service department positions and is recommended for all other positions. Mandatory child abuse reporter training required for all child care department positions.

Before/After School Associate:
Hours: Part-time
Position Summary: The successful candidate will have, or be working continuously toward an early childhood associate’s degree. We be supervising young children in a school and/or daycare setting.
Requirements: Must be 16 years of age; must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 90 days of hire. Must be able to pass a background check

Childcare Associate:
Hours: Full Time
Position Summary: Assist teacher during daily activities
Requirements: The ideal candidate will be extremely reliable, work collaboratively and effectively with all YMCA staff to ensure an exemplary classroom and workplace environment, possess the ability to work with integrity, discretion, and a professional approach, and verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 90 days of hire. Must be able to pass a background check

Teacher Associate:
Hours: Daytime
Position Summary: The successful candidate will have, or be working continuously toward an early childhood associate’s degree. We be supervising young children in a school and/or daycare setting.

Life Guard:
Hours: Part-time (flexible hours during the week and weekends)
Wage: $12.00
Position Summary: The lifeguard serves as a role model and is responsible for safety of all patrons in and around the pool area. The position requires mobility and attentiveness to visual and audible cues (for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors).
Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be able to pass a background check. Must hold a current Red Cross Lifeguard certification OR must pass a Red Cross Lifeguarding course before hire.

Part-time Cleaning Staff:
Hours: Part-time, flexible
Wage: $10.00
Position Summary: Basic cleaning inside and outside of the facility.
Requirements: Must be 18 years of age; must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 90 days of hire. Must be able to pass a background check
